How to fix Kaspersky fatal error during installation?

Step 1- Make sure the junction point is pointing to the correct location.

  1. If you aren’t getting the output mentioned above, reset the junction point. Follow the steps given below to do so-
  • Open the command prompt and run the following code-
  1. cd C:\ProgramData
  2. rd “Application Data” /Q
  3. mklink /J “Application Data” “C:\ProgramData”

Step 2- Check if you have a leftover registry key.

  1. Press the “Windows” button and then type “R” to open the run command window.
  2. Here, type “regedit” and then press “Enter”.
  3. Now, go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run”.
  4. Expand Run and look for a registry key named “avp**_post_uninstall”.
  5. If you find the key in your system, right click on the “avp**_post_uninstall key” and then click on “Delete”.

Step 3- Remove all traces of a previous security package you may have used.

You can simply download and then run a removal tool for whatever security package you were using previously. Removal tools are easily available online and as very convenient to run.

  1. A System Cache File

Follow the steps given below to delete any system cache files you may have-

  • For Windows XP-
  1. Press the “Windows” button and then type “R” to open the run command window.
  2. Now, type “cmd” into the run box to open a command prompt.
  3. Here, type “del C:\Windows\inf\infcache.1” and then press “Enter”.
  4. Restart your system to make sure everything is working fine.

For Windows Vista and 7

  1. In these cases, the cache is protected by system permissions so you need to become the owner first.
  2. First of all, download “Take Ownership” from links available online. It is a right click menu entry to gain ownership of files and folders.
  3. Now, double-click the “reg” file in the archive to import the data into your registry.
  4. Go to “C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore”.
  5. Here, right click on “INFCACHE.1” and then select “Take Ownership” from the context menu.
  6. Now, delete the INFCACHE.1 file.
  7. Restart your system to make sure everything is working fine.

NOTE- This issue doesn’t exist in Windows 8 and later versions.

Step 4- Another simultaneously installed security software may be causing issues.

The best solution to this solution to this problem is to uninstall the program completely and then try installing Kaspersky.
